Thurleigh Primary School & Nursery

Wednesday 26th April 2023

We have had such a busy half-term in Chestnut Class and have done LOADS since our last blog.

We have been working incredibly hard and have absolutely loved our topic this term. Our topic books are completely full with all our wonderful independent outcomes, which we have worked really hard on. We loved sharing our topic books with our parents this week.

In English, we wrote non-chronological reports about a living thing of our choice, we wrote 1st person narratives, recasting a chapter of our class text (which we have LOVED reading) from the perspective of a character of our choice and, we have written informal letters/postcards from a country of our choice in North America. We have loved learning about these different text types and having a go at writing our own based around our topic learning. Miss Calvert is so impressed with our writing progress!

We have been very busy in Maths this half-term! We have done measurement, area and perimeter and we also finished off our learning about Fractions and Decimals. We have also been doing lots of Times Table practice ready for the MTC test in June!

We have loved having steel-pan lessons this term in Music and enjoyed performing to our parents last week. This has been really fun and we have learned lots too!

In Art, we learned all about Aboriginal Art from Australia and we enjoyed creating our own piece of aboriginal art, inspired by the artist Jack Britten.

In D&T, we designed and made our own North American street food. We also made the packaging for this. We all made burgers from the USA! It was really fun and we also learned lots of skills.

In Geography this half-term, we have learned all about North and South America.

In R.E, we have learned about how different religions worship and why. We have compared worship in different religions looking at the similarities and differences.

We have also had lots of fun things going on in the school calander like World Book Day, Red Nose Day, Sports Festivals and, of course, we loved playing in the snow!

Well done, Chestnuts, you have had an awesome term! Enjoy a well-deserved break over Easter and come back ready for our next topic "Invasion!"
