Happy Friday everyone!

Another week has whooshed by in Chestnut Class.

We were all very happy last Friday as we won the attendance bear, for the second week in a row! Your attendance has been amazing, Chestnuts, keep up the amazing effort!

The boys were also very excited as they won last week's TT Rockstars battle and all got a giant chocolate cookie. This week it has been Miss Calvert VS Chestnut Class... Read next weeks blog to find out who won!

On Monday, we enjoyed spending some time in Ash Class listening to speeches for Head Boy and Head Girl. All of the candidates gave wonderful speeches and voting was such a tough decision, however, we were all thrilled with the final choice and know that we have a strong head boy and head girl this year, as well as some awesome house captains. Well done, Year 6!

This week we have been learning about Tooth Decay and what we can do to prevent this. We made information posters/leaflets for a dentist surgery, informing people about tooth decay and what they can do to look after their teeth. These look great as another independent task in our Topic books.

In English, we have started a new narrative writing unit based on our class text, Demon Dentist, by David Walliams. We have been learning lots of new things this week to support us in writing a short narrative, such as how to open sentences with fronted adverbials, how to use expanded noun phrases to describe characters and settings, how to use show not tell to convey character emotion, how to punctuate direct speech and how to use a thesaurus to search for exciting vocabulary. We now have lots of 'tools' up our sleeve to help us draft our narratives next week.

In Maths, Year 4 have been learning to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000. They have also been learning to count backwards through 0, including negative numbers. Year 3 have been learning to calculate intervals on a number line, this was challenging at first but they are now confident finding the difference between the given values and dividing by the number of intervals between them. Year 3 have also been practising methods to help them mentally add and subtract numbers.

In Art this week, we have been learning about our artist for this term, Romero Britto. We have looked at his, life, style and work and made fact files all about it. We are looking forward to creating self-portraits in his style.

What a busy week you have had Chestnuts! Keep up the hard work, you are doing so well and I am very proud of you all.
