Friday 16th September 2022

This week has whizzed by in Chestnut Class.

On Friday, we were all sad to hear about the death of Queen Elizabeth II. After our assembly with Mrs Augustine, we took time to remember her in class by writing acrostic poems. We chose a nice adjective to describe her, for each letter of her name. We have put our poems together to make a book for our book corner, so that we can remember her for all the wonderful things she was.

This week, we have been very busy. In our science lessons we have been learning about the function of each part of the digestive system. For our independent task, we made zig zag books demonstrating our understanding. We also used the topic books to find facts about the human digestive system to make a Kahoot quiz. We all enjoyed this and learnt lots of new facts from each other!

In Maths, we have been continuing with place value. Year 3 have begun to order and compare numbers with up to 3-digits and year 4 have been learning to calculate intervals on a number line to 1,000. In addition to our daily Maths lessons, we have been enjoying "magic maths sessions" to develop our mental maths.

In English this week, we have been enjoying more creative writing opportunities surrounding our class text Demon Dentist (which we are all really enjoying). Through this, we have also been learning to punctuate writing correctly and have developed our skill in editing and proofreading our own work. It's great to see the children developing more independence and taking more ownership of their work.

In PSHE we have been learning about the characteristics of a good friend. We wrote recipes for friendship and answered our first BIG question, what makes a good friend?

Keep up the hard work Chestnuts. What a great start to the new school year!
