What a busy first week back we have had in Chestnut Class this week!

On Tuesday, we had a visit from Year 12 A-Level Science students from St Thomas More. We enjoyed carrying out lots of exciting experiments, wearing scientist lab coats and goggles! We learnt about the difference between acids and alkalis and used universal indicatior to discover which of our everyday household products are acids and which are alkalis, learning all about the PH scale! We also used chromotograohy to explore what colours are inside the ink of black and brown pens. To our surprise it isn't black and brown! We also watched some really cool experiments which made lots of smoke and eruptions!

This week, we have been working super hard in English. We have started a new narrative writing unit based upon the BFG. We have been learning this week to describe settings, punctuate and include direct speech and create action in our writing. We will use the skills we are learning to write a shirt narrative at the end of the unit. We have also been working hard on our Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, correcting and improving pieces of work and recapping our learning from this year so far.

In Maths, we have started learning about fractions, which we are all really enjoying!

In Art this week, we have been learning all about Surrealism, what this is, when it came about, why people starting creating surreal artwork and what it looks like. We did an independent task, demonstrating our understanding of this style of art. We are looking forward to creating some of our own surreal artwork later in the half term!

We have lots of exciting things coming up this half term in Chestnut Class which we are all very excited about!
