For our Marvellous Middle, we learned all about how different textile techniques have changed and developed over time. We then had a go at using some of these techniques, dying fabric using fruits and vegetables, using a needle and thread to make embroidery patterns, and using wooden blocks to print on fabric. We had lots of fun and developed new skills.

We have started our new Science unit for this half-term, Electricity. We have enjoyed learning about how electricity is generated, learning about the difference between mains powered and battery powered appliances. We have also been enjoying creating our own circuits. 

In Topic, we have been learning about the problem of waste and how we can help. We have made posters, informing people about the problem of waste and pollution and teaching them about the 3Rs.  In English, we are now writing persuasive formal letters to children in Ash Class persuading them to start to reduce, reuse and recycle their rubbish. We can't wait to post these letters to them. We are also looking forward to upcycling old clothing at the end of the term. Thank you to everyone who has donated their unwanted clothing, this is so helpful!

 

In Maths, we have been learning to tell the time on analogue and digital clocks. We found this challenging to begin with, but we are now starting to get the hang of this very useful life skill. 

 

We have been enjoying the lovely weather in Chestnut Class and have been able to enjoy lessons outside in the Outdoor Classroom. We are so lucky to have such brilliant outdoor space to enjoy! 

 

In History, we have been continuing to look at how clothing has changed. We worked in groups to create big timelines showing what we have learnt so far about the changes in clothing throughout history.  We also enjoyed learning about The Industrial Revolution and how this impacted clothing production. 

In our R.E lesson with Mrs Rahman, we learnt about different Islamic festivals, why they are celebrated and how. It is fantastic to have her expertise as we learn about Islam. 

What a busy few weeks we have had! We also have lots to look forward to in the lead up to end of term.
