We have had a very busy 2 weeks in Chestnut Class!

On Tuesday, we enjoyed a multi-sport festival. We took part in quick cricket and rounders and all enjoyed working together as a team. Miss Calvert was very proud of us for showing our school values outside of school as we participated in this event. Both teams came 3rd, which is an amazing achievement!

In Science, we have been learning all about forces and magnets. We have been carrying out lots of investigations to find out about different types of forces. Last week, we tested how surface effects friction, learning that rougher and bumpier surfaces create more friction than smooth surfaces. This week, we have been exploring magnetic forces and we discovered that different magnets and have different strengths, testing the strength of different magnets we have at school. We are all enjoying carrying out these investigations to help us learn and discover new things.

In Topic last week, we learnt all about British clothing in The Middle Ages. We found out that during the Middle Ages, people were not equal and that there was a social hierarchy known as the Feudal System in place. There were also strict rules in place which told people what they could and could not wear. We enjoyed learning about the clothing worn by different groups, and in English created our own non-chronological reports about British clothing in The Middle Ages.

This week in Topic, we have been learning all about Clothing in Tudor England. We enjoyed learning about the Tudor Monarchs and their influence on fashion during the Tudor Period. We are finding it very interesting to see how fashion changed over time. We created zig-zag information booklets about Tudor clothing for our Topic books and they look fantastic!

In Maths, Y3 have been learning to measure, compare, add and subtract mass and capacity. Y4 have also been working extremely hard, learning all about decimals. This can be really tricky but they have all got the hang of it and are showing a fantastic understanding. We are enjoying applying our understanding answering problem-solving and reasoning questions.

In our Grammar lessons this week, we have been learning to expand our noun phrases by adding modifying adjectives, nouns and preposition phrases. This is helping us to make our writing even more exciting!

Chestnut Class really could not be working any harder at the moment!

Next week we have our residential trip, and we cannot wait! Keep an eye out on facebook and Weduc for photos and updates!
