We have had another super busy week in Chestnut Class this week!

This week, we read an extract from George's Marvellous Medicine, in which George makes a new medicine for his horrible, old Grandma.  We then designed our own potions and have been doing lots of cross-curricular tasks surrounding this.

In Design and Technology, we have been creating the packaging for our potions. We learnt that all things are designed for an audience and a purpose, even things like packaging! We explored the purpose of packaging and considered how this, and audience, effects packaging design. We then designed the packaging for our own potions, designing a label for the bottle and a box to protect it. We have now finished the design process and we are busy making our final packaging for our mini-potion bottles. We will share some pictures of our final products when they are done!

In English this week, we have been looking at instructional writing. Again, we looked at how this text-type has a specific audience and purpose and thought carefully about how this will affect our writing choices. We also looked at examples of instruction texts, identifying the key features. We then used a RUBRIC to draft instructions, telling people how to use our potions. We then wrote these up neatly and will put a copy inside our box with our potion. Next week, we will be writing a piece of persuasive writing, encouraging people to buy our potions. We are all really enjoying this cross-curricular project!

We have also been enjoying our fantastic Forest School sessions this half-term. We have been having lots of fun learning to use tools and balance on a slack-line. We are very lucky to have these fabulous opportunities.

This week, we have also started our lunchtime and after-school clubs. Lots of us from Chestnut Class are taking part in book club. Miss Calvert wrapped up lots of books and wrote 3 words on the front of each package. Each week, we will choose a book to unwrap and will read the first chapter together. This week, we unwrapped Gangster Granny. We all found this book very funny and were interested in reading other books written by David Walliams!
