This week has flown by in Chestnut Class and the lead up to Christmas has finally started!

We have been working hard in Grammar this week, recapping our word classes and learning about the difference between clauses and phrases. This is really tricky to understand but Chestnut Class have worked really hard and are starting to understand this grammar.

I was so impressed with the children's writing this week. We did a creative piece of writing in topic, describing a picture of a Tsunami, and the children's writing was fantastic. It is amazing to see the progress they have made already this year. It is also lovely to see them applying all we have been learning in Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling.

We have also been enjoying reading our class text, Stig of the Dump, during our shared reading sessions this week. The children are really engaged with the story and we are almost at the end of the book now!

This week in Maths, we have been revisiting our written methods for addition, applying our understanding to answer problem solving and reasoning questions. We are all much more secure with this written method now and we are developing a really good understanding of addition and place value. We have really enjoyed the challenge this week in Maths, applying our understanding to solve problems and explain our reasoning. We are all starting to embrace and enjoy challenge, trying our best and persevering!

The children have been really enjoying our “World Cup” battles. This is a game we play in class to practise our written methods for the four number operations. We generate calculations using dice and race a partner to have the correct answer first. Now that we are confident with our methods, we are really enjoying the competition!

The boys won the Battle of the Bands last week on TTRS! This week, we have been working together as a class, battling against Zebra Class from Kymbrook. As always, we have been working really hard to try and have the most correct answers! Whilst we have been having fun on TTRS, our recall of multiplication facts has improved and our fluency on TTRS shows we are making progress!

This week, we have also been busy preparing for our Christmas Nativity: 'Lights, Camel, Action 2: The Sequin'. We are playing The Wisemen, Camels and The Stars. We have been practising our singing, dancing and acting ready for our performances. We are getting on really well, but still have a lot to learn. We are loving working together on this though and can’t wait to perform to our families!

Today, we also had decoration day. We enjoyed making lots of Christmas decorations for our classroom and Christmas cards and treats for our loved ones at home. We loved being creative whilst listening to our favourite Christmas songs. It was the perfect way to end another great week!
