Thurleigh Primary School & Nursery

Friday 19th November 2021

This week all the Thurleigh Rangers have enjoyed a selection of 3 activities in their Forest School session.

There was den building (the favourite), painting with mud and a bug window. The den building is seeing more independence with children working in small groups and even a lone with a lot of thought going in to location and making a roof! In Ash class a group used sticks and twindle to form their den!

The mud painting was messy but a lot of fun! Children would put mud and enough water to make the mud paint to the right consistency adding colour if they chose. There was amazing artwork produced by all! Some abstract and some self-portraits! Some children chose to paint laying on the grass! The bug window was a new activity. We raised a long piece of Perspex off the ground, high enough for a child to lay under. The children would move around the woods with trowels to dig up bugs like worms! Mrs Wiggins found lots of larva under a tree stump which was fascinating to observe.

The children would then put the bugs discovered on the Perspex and lay underneath to view them from a different angle. The children did enjoy this and some found it a challenge to be that close to a bug! Also whilst outside lots of children from all the classes enjoyed throwing the leaves in the air, burying each other in leaves or making leaf angels! Time does fly by as we are  all having so much fun!
