Thurleigh Primary School & Nursery

Friday 5th November 2021

It was so good getting back into our woods after the half term break! Now the weather has really turned and we could really feel that it is autumn now!

On Wednesday first out was Oak class. It rained at the start of the session but that did not stop us! Oaks enjoyed a story about Bog Babies and then had the chance to make one to take home! They were each given clay and then chose natural resources to decorate their babies! Before the end of the session they all had a little go a tree climbing under the watchful eye of Ranger Carly and myself! They all really enjoyed this! Next it was Willows turn! We had lots of choices available for them! There was den building, Elder bead necklace making (Mrs Freed's favourite) , a scavenger hunt and colour match activity. Also there was clay to make a hedgehog using the natural resources too but Willows were so much more imaginative! They did make hedgehogs but also some made butterflies, more Bog babies, birds and even an elephant! The time flew by even though it was very cold this week in the woods!

On Thursday in the beautiful autumn sun, Chestnuts came out first. There was den building, a scavenger hunt, clay for making what they would like (after Willows creativity I left the option open!), colour match activity and making elder bead necklaces. They were all amazing! Our forest was buzzing with activity! A group of boys found a stick which they thought would make a great limbo stick! Lots of Chestnuts wanted to get involved with this then they started to jump over it! They were pushing themselves to see how high they could go! The group of boys demonstrated excellent communication skills, teamwork, bravery and kindness. This entertained them for a good half an hour! Next was Ash class. They also had the same number of choices! Some embraced the choices and had ago at most things and a big group of boys just enjoyed the den building! This group also added a pull up bar to their den!

Ranger Carly and I look forward to seeing where next week's forest school's sessions take us!
