Thurleigh Primary School Uniform Policy.

We believe that a school uniform is an important aspect of your child’s experience at school. This belief is for a variety of reasons:

  • Uniform creates equality.
  • Uniform prevents damage to everyday clothes.
  • Uniform is affordable and wears well.
  • Uniform contributes to sense of team and belonging.
  • Uniform fosters a feeling of pride and respect.

We ask all children where our school uniform, we encourage them to maintain a very good standard of clean and tidy dress whilst in school.

PE kit must be kept in a named drawstring bag. PE kit should be kept in school and can be returned home for washing at weekends and holidays all items of PE kit should be named.

Years 1 to 6

PE is a vital area of the curriculum and we actively promote the benefits of exercise.  In order for us to maximise the teaching and learning opportunities in our PE lessons children will come to school dressed in their PE kit on the days they have PE.

Children in Yr 5 & 6 will require a swimming kit in school once a week during blocks of swimming lessons. Swimming kit consists of: a costume/trunks (no bikinis please) a towel flip-flops or alternative swimming hat

All children must wear swimming hats when swimming as it prevents damage to pool filters. All items of swimming kit must be named

In the summer children may continue to wear winter uniform if they so wish. All long hair must be tied back and in neat fashion hair accessories such as slides, ribbons, scrunchies, headbands, which should be kept as simple as possible and, if possible, in line with school colours.

Parents are kindly requested to ensure that all items are labelled very clearly with their child’s name.

It is absolutely imperative for safety reasons that we ask that no child wears jewellery in school with the exception of small neat stud earrings which must be removed by the child before P.E. and swimming.
